Week 13 News and Notes
News:
In this week’s news we had some pretty high drama in a couple of match-ups and two teams clinching play-off spots (congrats to Scott and Dan).
I quite enjoy the opportunity to sit down and watch a Sunday or Monday night game with a fantasy victory already sewn up because it’s a best of both worlds scenario. You can partake of the fantasy but also partake of the “normal” football. Once in awhile it isn’t even all that bad to watch one of those games after your crushing defeat is a foregone conclusion either but I must say I can also highly recommend having your entire season come down to a Monday night game that goes into overtime while you and your opponent are two points apart. Having that shit get decided on a field goal (after your kicker misses one) at 11:30 at night will go a long way towards reminding you why we subject ourselves to this torture for five months of the year.
Random Thought of the Week:
Watching Trevor Lawrence limp down the tunnel to the dressing room with someone from the training staff under each arm made me think about how a play-off team can see their season potentially end on one play. It also got me thinking about the near universal cries from fans and the entire NFL “machine” alike that there aren’t enough good quarterbacks and/or that QB play is affecting the quality of the product. Were Brady, Manning, Brees and that ilk just tougher than these guys or did their teams just place a higher priority on keeping them upright? Maybe it’s time to carve a little bit out of the $40MM to $50MM these guys make a year to help make o-lines (other than the top five ones) more than just a turnstile?
Shark Move of the Week:
I will stretch the parameters of “shark” moves when necessary in order to recognize one of us that achieves a particularly high score, makes a bold call that pays off or that wins a particularly close contest due to great decision-making but this week I’d be really stretching the guidelines to make that kind of call. BK and Ceilidh had really nice scores but they were largely driven by their really nice players. About the best I can do is to give the award to Grid who went with Miami DEF over KC, which proved to be an important decision. GB has not exactly been killing it on offense lately so he might have been tempted to go that way but it’s a good thing he didn’t.
Guppy Move of the Week:
In a similar vein to last week, I can’t really find a deserving award winner among us so I will give the award to whichever dingus on the Houston coaching staff thought it would be a great idea for the 165 lb “Tank” Dell to do some inside / lead blocking on a goal line run play this week. I have no idea how Dell earned his nickname but I can assure you it’s not for his ability to run block against NFL defensive linemen…
Welcome to Fantasy Football Hell Award of the Week:
More injuries, more seasons turning on a dime. I can’t help with that stuff but I can “celebrate” that it’s play-off eve in Clan McDonald! We’re coming up on our last week of the regular season and by my rough and quick analysis, it looks like three spots are up for grabs and four teams have a realistic shot. I think BK is already in the championship bracket courtesy of his point total and Archie is likely in the toilet bowl courtesy of his. That leaves four teams fighting for three spots, where wins, losses and points will determine the rest. Best of luck to all!
