Week 16 News and Notes

News:

We got a couple of different flavours of contests in our semi finals this year. One felt like it might be over pretty early due to Thursday scoring and it ended up playing out more or less that way. In the other semi though, it was looking like we might have a Brandon versus Ceilidh final shaping up but in the end there was drama and intrigue and finally Grid prevailed. That means we’re either going to see a first time champ or a three time champ when the week is over. Good luck to both!

In the consolation bracket, Archie and the Piper each advanced to set up a brother versus brother match-up for the porcelain prize. Let’s hope neither of them are calling their friend Ralph on the old American Standard on Saturday night!

In the 5th place game, yours truly outlasted AOB no thanks to Brock (not so) Purdy. Last but not least, Jay bested Brian in the Please Just Let This Be Over bowl.

Welcome to Fantasy Football Hell Award of the Week:

Maybe a bit of an odd place for this but I’m giving the award this week to Russel Wilson for getting benched for the rest of the year not based on performance but finances.

I was a fan of Wilson’s game in Seattle. He significantly outperformed his draft position and was an important part of a team that won one Superbowl and should have won another. I was also a fan of trading him to Denver. Was it one of the worst trades (for Denver) in recent memory? Oh my yes. Was the immediate contract extension they gave him a really bad business decision? One of the worst. Still, as bad as last year was, this year Wilson has 3000 passing yards, a 66% completion percentage, 26 TDs against 8 INTs and a passer rating of 98. That sits him about 8th or 9th in QB performance – right in the vicinity or Goff and Lamar.

Near as I can figure, Wilson is a pretty good quarterback who was paid to be the best QB in the history of football and because he isn’t, he’s being benched. I think that’s pretty messed up.
