Week 6 News and Notes

News:

It was a quiet week in Clan McDonald. Most of us not named Scott had pretty *cough* modest weeks in the scoring department and some of that may be owing to the fact we’re fully into bye weeks. Put that additional pressure on rosters that are already a little thin and there you go. Still I like to be a glass half full kinda guy so… at least we have everyone with a win in the win column now! Yay?

Random Thought of the Week:

As I expressed to one of our fellow managers this weekend, the NFL is making it really hard to believe the puzzling outcomes of some of these games is solely the result of matchups and players having good (or bad) games. Are we buying that Buffalo was just overwhelmed by the Giants DEF after hanging 35+ points on Miami, LV and Washington? Is it just bad luck that Tyler Bass misses two straight fifty yarders? The first field goals he’s missed all year? How about this “just enough to win” KC offense? What was going on in that SF – CLE game? Is that handling of the 49ers all about the white uniforms or the scuffle before the game? Seems a bit sketchy to me…

Shark Move of the Week:

There weren’t a lot of bright spots this week really. We certainly could not be faulted for giving the award to Scott for the 180 point week that didn’t even require multi-player heroics but most of his line-up was just, you know, good. This is what it looks like when you get four Bs and two As on your report card! Going in an entirely different direction, Neil managed to squeeze about as much out of his line-up as he could, including his top scorer of the week Justin “the shirt tucker” Tucker. You don’t want to rely on a couple of fantasy field goals to win every week but it’s better than losing, right?

Guppy Move of the Week:

Changing gears to look at AOB’s side of things, there are lots of ways to lose by a couple field goals and Mimsy was a good one. I know we get points for kick return yardage but unless young Marvin is going to dress up as Devin Hester for Halloween, it might be better to look elsewhere.

Brandon lost a close one as well in what I would call a sort of unofficial “rivalry week”. In fairness, you can’t sit Davante can you? I guess you can’t but this was a reminder of what Belichick does to the other team’s best player – like pretty much every week.

Smacktalk Award of the Week:

There so many things you can look forward to in October… pumpkin spice, falling leaves, play-off baseball and Neil poking his head up with a comment or two after all the shots have been fired and the smoke has cleared at the OK Corral. Still I did enjoy the P. J. Walker comment and to be fair, Archie does have some unconventional practices when it comes to the QB position. The only thing I can think of here is that maybe he really enjoys reruns of police dramas and got TJ Hooker and Walker, Texas Ranger mixed up?

Welcome to Fantasy Football Hell Award of the Week:

Another fun thing in the fall is the Western Fair and watching the Piper throw darts at waiver wire RBs reminds me of the dart game with the wall of balloons. When he hit Emari “Incommunicado” Demercado last week, he was probably hoping for a stuffed animal or at least one of those little plastic paratroopers with the parachutes but instead he got stuck with a coupon for 10% off day-old corndogs. As Rotoworld likes to say in their player write-ups, “The Pipers will be looking to get back on track this week against Rosstitutes”. Hey look at that! We have a little “brotherly shove” of our own going on this week! Someone’s going to have to wear a Leafs jersey (or the Steve Belichick mullet) after losing this one!
