Week 7 News and Notes

Week 7 News and Notes

News:

It’s spooky season. I don’t have a bunch of metaphors queued up about trick or treating or pumpkins or whatnot but I do feel like Week 7 had a similar vibe to this time of year. One minute it’s Labour Day. The summer is over and you’re adjusting to Fall. The next minute there are leaves all over the ground, it’s basically November and you’re trying to figure out what the hell happened. AOB and the Brawlers had pretty solid weeks but the rest of us seem to be playing in a mud bowl. We still have winners and losers but it’s not exactly pretty.

Random Thought of the Week:

A reminder about line-ups: Obviously incomplete line-ups happen from time to time. People get busy and/or an NFL team does something unexpected that results in a zero (eg. Akers a few weeks ago or Bijan this past week). That’s understandable but it becomes harder to understand when it’s more than occasional or not really due to some unexpected or last minute thing.

If you can’t set your final line-up on Sunday with all the information you need, set it earlier in the week with the information you have – that way if you can’t make it back before Sunday, at least you have a complete line-up. This is a pretty competitive league and you’re not going to win very often with an incomplete line-up but remember, it isn’t just a loss for you. It’s a win for someone else and very likely it’s going to have some effect down the line. When you’re fighting with someone for a play-off spot you don’t want to see them playing against a pilon. Just sayin’…

Shark Move of the Week:

On the way to the second highest score of the week, Ken kinda demonstrated what you need to do when the fantasy weather gets worse and you need to tack into the wind to get where you need to go. It’s almost November and most people’s perfect drafts and teams are long gone. This week the Brown Dawgs did it with 6th round George Pickens, 10th round Rashee Rice and Josh Palmer, an FA then acquired in a trade. We spend so much time in August thinking about our first pick when in reality, the draft really does start somewhere around round 8.

Guppy Move of the Week:

Not exactly a guppy move but our dawgs played each other in what I would casually call “Byemageddon”. Between the two of them they had no less than eight players on bye last week. The Jay dawg definitely got the short end of the Beggin’ Strip but at least he has a lot of byes bye-hind him now!

Smacktalk Award of the Week:

I did enjoy Piper taking the mick out of Mortley for having not one, not two but three pizzas this week. I also couldn’t fail to notice that Mortley still managed to outscore him…

Welcome to Fantasy Football Hell Award of the Week:

More an item from my weekly mental “Post-it notes” than a hell award but Neil declared his season was over after this week’s game. He may have meant it in practical rather than mathematical terms but just in case it was the latter, I wanted to point out that loss number 7 is traditionally when the play-off dream truly dies. Until then, every week is a new week and every new week could be the beginning of a win streak. I myself personally have had seasons where I lost five in a row and won five in a row. It may have even been the same season! If all your players play this week Neilly, I think you have a solid shot!
